Diamond (spilota)

A variant of Carpet Python (Morelia spilota)

Diamond (spilota)

The nominate subspecies (M. s. spilota) from cooler southeastern Australia: glossy black with yellow-centered scales forming diamond rosettes. Beautiful but physiologically demanding.

Keeper tips for this variant

Diamonds need a genuine seasonal cool-down/brumation cycle—kept too warm year-round they develop a fatal neurological wasting condition ('diamond python syndrome'), so this morph is for experienced keepers.

This page covers the Diamond (spilota) variant. For full husbandry, water params, diet and health —General care: Carpet Python
