The closely related yellow-crowned form (C. auriceps), green with a yellow crown and a red frontal band. Often kept and (controversially) hybridized with red-crowned birds in captivity.
Keeper tips for this variant
Keep yellow-fronted and red-crowned birds in separate breeding pairs — the two readily hybridize, and the hobby values pure, non-crossed lines of each.
