The classic form of *Sympodium sp.*, with tiny daisy-like polyps showing brilliant electric-blue centers and a vivid blue encrusting base that hugs the rock. Each flower-like polyp has short, feathery tentacles, giving the colony a soft, shimmering blue carpet look.
📜 Backstory
A wild Indo-Pacific color form sold as 'Blue Sympodium' by most major vendors, including World Wide Corals (as 'WWC Blue Sympodium Coral'), LiveAquaria (as a Certified Captive Grown / CCGC aquacultured frag), Quality Marine, and Tidal Gardens. Reef Builders documented early imports in 2010, including a specimen collected near Jakarta, Indonesia, and it is now widely aquacultured. There is no single named designer lineage — it is a wild color form propagated by many farms. Worth noting: the coral the trade calls 'Sympodium' is, by some taxonomists (and a 2014 CORAL Magazine article), more correctly *Alcyonium verseveldti*; 'Sympodium' remains the established trade name in North America.
Keeper tips for this variant
Place on rock and give it medium to high light and gentle-to-moderate flow. It is very tolerant of a range of conditions; lower light tends to deepen the blue color while higher light pushes faster growth. Dose iodine and trace elements to keep the soft tissue healthy. Note that it is an encrusting coral that can spread, so leave it room and surround it with sand if you want to contain it.
