Meteor Shower
A variant of Cyphastrea (Cyphastrea serailia)
Representative Cyphastreaphoto — a dedicated image of this exact morph isn't available yet.
The classic Cyphastrea morph: a turquoise-to-teal-green encrusting base studded with bright red/orange corallites that look like a shower of falling embers. The contrast of a cool base and hot polyps is what made the moon-coral genus a hobby staple.
📜 Backstory
The 'Atlantis' (ATL) Meteor Shower is the named strain most often credited with putting Cyphastrea on the hobby map; Jason Fox Signature Corals still lists it as the 'Atlantis Meteor Shower.' It has since been propagated and sold widely by ORA, Jason Fox, Tidal Gardens and World Wide Corals, making it the most common and recognizable named Cyphastrea in the trade.
Keeper tips for this variant
Place low-to-mid in the tank under low-to-moderate light (roughly 100-200 PAR) with gentle-to-moderate flow; too much PAR can wash out the green base, while steady flow keeps detritus off the encrusting tissue. It encrusts fast and can sting neighbors, so leave open rock around it.
