The classic male: golden crest, scarlet underparts, orange-and-black cape, and a long barred tail; hens are mottled brown. The wild-type form and easiest to source.

Keeper tips for this variant

Keep in a densely planted flight pen with evergreen cover so the shy hen feels secure and the male displays; house strictly away from chickens (blackhead) and away from Lady Amherst's pheasants to avoid hybridizing.
