Watermelon Chalice
A variant of Chalice coral (Echinophyllia sp.)

Representative Chalice coralphoto — a dedicated image of this exact morph isn't available yet.
Named for its fruit-like palette: a green-to-teal body rind with red or pink eyes, evoking watermelon flesh and skin across the encrusting plate.
📜 Backstory
Watermelon is one of the long-standing descriptive chalice names applied to red-eye-on-green Echinophyllia pieces. Because several vendors have used the 'Watermelon' label for similar-looking colonies, the exact mother colony is debated rather than tied to one source. It's more attainable than the top-tier named chalices but still a desirable, color-contrast collector piece.
Keeper tips for this variant
Low flow and moderate, blue-leaning light suit it; place where it can encrust across rock and avoid blasting it with flow, which keeps the polyps retracted and dulls color.
