Fantail

A variant of Domestic pigeon (Columba livia domestica)

Fantail

Representative Domestic pigeonphoto — a dedicated image of this exact morph isn't available yet.

An ornamental fancy breed with a large, upright fan of 30-40 tail feathers carried over the back; a gentle, popular show and pet pigeon.

Keeper tips for this variant

The big tail unbalances them and impairs flight, so house in a predator-proof aviary (they cannot escape hawks well) and keep nest boxes low; trim a few tail feathers at breeding time so the cock can tread the hen and fertility holds up.
