The classic *Favites pentagona* morph: a green-to-teal body laced with **red 'battle line' splotches** and vivid green polyp mouths, the red-on-green look that gave the coral its name.
📜 Backstory
The original War Coral is a *Favites pentagona* (often sold as 'Favia') color form named and marketed by Reeffarmers around 2005, when frags traded for hundreds of dollars. It became one of the most recognizable named brains in the hobby and is now widely aquacultured and sold by many vendors, including AquaSD ('War Coral Favia') and LiveAquaria (CCGC aquacultured Red & Green War Coral). The 'War' name refers to the red-on-green battle-line pattern; because so many wild and cultured pieces trade under the name, exact lineage of any given piece is debated.
Keeper tips for this variant
Place low-to-mid in the tank under low-to-moderate light (PAR ~120-200) with gentle, indirect flow; leave 1-2 inches of clearance because favites can put out stinging sweeper tentacles at night. A hardy, forgiving brain that tolerates lower-light corners.
