Green Star Polyps (Standard)

A variant of Green star polyps (Pachyclavularia violacea)

Green Star Polyps (Standard)

Representative Green star polypsphoto — a dedicated image of this exact morph isn't available yet.

A mat-forming soft coral with a purple encrusting base and bright green, eight-tentacled polyps that sway in the flow like a grassy lawn. The classic 'GSP' that nearly every reefer encounters.

📜 Backstory

Not a designer morph but the baseline wild form long traded as *Pachyclavularia* (the genus is debated; many taxonomists place these corals in *Briareum*), sold as an unnamed beginner soft coral since the earliest days of the hobby. It commands almost no price because it grows like a weed and is frequently given away as free frags or 'pest' coral. There is no collector lineage — it is the generic species in trade.

Keeper tips for this variant

Place on its own isolated rock or island away from the main reef — it spreads aggressively over rock, sand, and even glass, so give it a barrier of bare sand. Tolerates low to high light and any flow.
